In 1965, three local businessmen and good friends, Louis Nazzaro, Russ DiFranco and Nick Nerich, shared a dream: to create "a place of complete enjoyment and relaxation for you and your children, and a place where you will be proud to entertain your guests." Their vision of a "little club in the country" began to take shape in 1966 when they purchased the Costello farm and created the Redding Country Club Holding Corporation.
The 46 investors in The Holding Corporation included Redding residents, along with notables such as actress Carmen Mathews, bandleader Enoch Light and industrial designer Francesco Gianninoto. After hiring course architects Ryder & Carlson (Morefar, Richter Park, Salem Golf Course), 1967-68 saw the construction of the original 9 holes, 2 tennis courts and a swimming pool. The first Tournament at Redding was held on Labor Day weekend in September of 1968. Only 4 holes were playable at the time, leading to what continues to be an RCC tradition: The 4 Hole Open. By 1969, the 9-hole course opened for play. In 1973 a 13-year-old named Bob Tway won the Men's Club Championship. Thirteen years later, Tway won the 1986 PGA Championship.
As the 20th Century ended, so did most of the original clubhouse which was stripped to its skeleton and rebuilt, while maintaining the core and style of the original colonial farmhouse. During our more recent ‘history’ new tees stretched the course to 6355 yards, and major enhancements and improvements were done throughout the course. Practice and teaching facilities were expanded and include a driving range, putting green and 70-yard short game area with greens and bunkers, to benefit your complete game. The family friendly pool complex was rebuilt and modernized, including a new pool house with locker and shower facilities, a playground, and “The Poolside CafĂ©” full-service snack bar and dining patio. Just in time for spring last year we debuted our expanded porch and patio area. The dining area tripled in size, and the adjacent ‘beer garden’ with firepit, and organic herb garden were added. Our covered dining patio ‘room’ features a full-service bar and grill where you can relax, watch your favorite sports while enjoying the golf course and sunset views.
